The documentary "The Green Beetle" reveals the different toxins that pass from plastic to our body and with what current epidemics they are related.

More harmful than practical

Plastic is a synthetic material made from petroleum contains a multitude of toxic substances related to cancer and disruption of the endocrine system.

Among the toxins present in plastic most studied for the damage they cause to human and animal health are bisphenols (such as bisphenol A present in the coating of food cans), phthalates, common in toys, or substances added to the plastic so that it does not burn, the flame retardants.

All of these substances are endocrine disruptors, that is, toxins that damage the hormonal system and are related to growing epidemics worldwide, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes and damage to brain development.

The plastics industry remains anchored in the past and denies the risk of toxins present in its products. This position would be more credible if it made the entire composition of the plastic accessible on the label of its articles, something that it does not do now.

Plastic and children

One of the population groups most exposed to plastic toxins are children, the population most vulnerable to endocrine disruptors. Many toys are made with recycled plastics and are the items with the most non-compliance with toxic concentrations (20% are in breach of regulations).

According to experts, the accumulation of exposures is not taken into account: plastic surrounds us and exposes us to a multitude of different substances, whose joint effects we do not know.

Let's abandon plastic now!

Faced with this cocktail effect, the only safe option is to abandon the use of plastic. More and more people are reducing the unnecessary plastic that wraps food. But there is much more invisible plastic, such as that hidden in hygiene products, such as microplastics in exfoliating cosmetics and toothpastes, in industrial cosmetic creams, in vehicles and in household items.
